20 Simple Ways To Thank a Trucker In Person

Local and over-the-roaders no doubt have been a huge staple in America’s 2020 economic flow, throughout the entire pandemic. And they continue to move our business’s forward, helping them replenish their shelves and bring in more when needed.

Maybe that’s why this year feels even more special during September, which is “Trucker Appreciation Month” and during the “National Truck Driver’s Appreciation Week” from September 13th-19th.

We hope and encourage you to thank a trucker today, tomorrow and going forward for all their continued hard work.

Here are 20 small, but incredibly thoughtful ways to say show your thanks and give back to truck drivers in your neighborhood for their selfless work:

  • Give a truck driver a gift card for gas, a local store, or restaurant
  • Pay for a truck driver’s drink or cup of coffee while they are stopped at a rest stop gas station
  • Buy a trucker a meal at the in-house restaurant at the gas station or nearby
  • Buy a shower ticket for a truck driver at a local rest stop
  • Pay for an over-the-road driver’s night stay at a local hotel for a good nights sleep
  • When you see a truck on the road, give the driver a wave or thumps up
  • Be courteous when sharing the road with a truck driver. When passing a truck, be sure to signal, provide enough room ahead of the truck, and be aware of a truck driver’s blind spots
  • Put a “Thank-You Truckers” sticker on your vehicle
  • Gift a trucker a personal care package filled with essentials, such as water, canned goods, snacks, paper goods and hand sanitizer
  • Put up a thank you sign on the side of the road or on an overpass
  • Leave a driver a thank you note on your front door
  • #ThankATrucker on social media and encourage others to do the same
  • Have specials all week or month for truckers
  • Support local trucking charities and nonprofit organizations that provide financial assistance to truck drivers in need
  • Put up a sign at the loading dock thanking all the truck drivers that come to your business
  • Wear “I HEART TRUCKERS” button at work where truckers will see
  • Give free lunches to all drivers for a day/the week
  • Hand out “Thank a Trucker” stickers
  • Include a thank-you message to truckers in radio spot or other media

Whether it’s a friendly wave from behind the wheel or buying a truck driver a cup of coffee at a rest stop, one simple act of thanks goes a long way in showing your appreciation for the everyday heroes in the trucking industry during this challenging time.
